I have a Newborn, will I sleep again?

Your Newborn and Sleep...

Congratulations on welcoming your new baby into this wonderful world. As a new parent, one of many questions you have asked, will I ever sleep again!?

Yes, you will. And so will your baby, once they are ready. But for now, embrace this new chapter, do lots of cuddles and enjoy getting to know your little one.

Let’s chat sleep. How can you help your newborn with sleep?

Your main focus should be a full tummy during the day. Full feeds in the day. Keep your baby from becoming overtired, they are only awake for a short period of time. In the first month, 30-45 minutes between naps. As they get older, this will gradually increase to 60-75 minutes.

Do you know that your baby does need a lot of help to sleep, as they can't self-settle, they have not developed that skill yet. Holding, feeding, cuddling or rocking your small baby, is perfectly fine. Help as much as they need.

Checklist for your newborn:

  • Full tummy during the day, full feeds.

  • Good naps

  • Don't keep your baby awake for too long, growing is tiring, they need sleep.

  • Babywear and keep your baby close when they are fussy.

  • Enjoy your baby!
